A man accused of fatally shooting a 6-year-old girl in Texas has been charged with murder in her death.
The boy’s mother said Tuesday that the child was shot multiple times at a home in the Houston suburb of Westlake, the Dallas Morning News reported.
The man is charged with capital murder and was being held on $1 million bond at a Travis County jail, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
A neighbor told the newspaper that the boy was in a toy truck with a woman when she disappeared.
The teen was staying with her family after a trip to Disneyland and they had planned to go on a family vacation, the newspaper said.
The family had been visiting relatives in Texas, where the girl was last seen at a birthday party in Austin.
The child was not at home when she was killed, according the Associated Press.
She was last heard from at around 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, the news agency said.
A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest on Tuesday.
The incident occurred shortly after the girl’s father called 911 and told officers that his son was upset, according a police report.
The girl’s mother told police her son was playing with a toy gun and was shot several times, the AP reported.
