It’s been nearly three years since Caitlyn Jenner revealed that she had breast cancer and was finally diagnosed with stage IV melanoma.
Caitlyn’s mother, Diane Sawyer, had revealed that her daughter had been suffering from some serious health issues.
The 26-year-old had been living in a virtual reality world that had been created to simulate Caitlyn in order to help with her care and recovery.
After Caitlyn had made a breakthrough in December 2017, Diane and her husband were contacted by her mother’s care team who asked if Caitlyn would be willing to cover her breasts up.
The couple had initially agreed, but she changed her mind at the last minute and insisted that they cover them up.
“The first thing that Caitlyn said to us was, ‘I love my mother,'” Diane Sawyer told Entertainment Tonight.
“And she said, ‘But I know I’m not ready to do it.
I want to show you that I love you.'”
Caitlyn has now been seen covering up her breast in public places, including a Starbucks coffee cup, while wearing a bra.
Diane Sawyer said that Caitlin told them that she felt like they had been “bumping it up a bit”.
“We felt like, ‘Well, you’ve made it a little bit easier,'” she told the outlet.
“It wasn’t a big deal.”
Caitlyn recently opened up about the emotional and physical toll of the disease, saying that she has a lot of stress and that she feels like she “has a disease”.
“I feel like I’m living in the past,” she told PEOPLE.
“I’m not feeling well, I’m feeling really sad, and I’m very sad about it.”
She has been battling with depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) since the diagnosis.
“My body feels like it’s trying to throw up,” she said.
“That’s when I try to shut it off.”
She also revealed that the surgery was painful and “really scary”.
“The surgery itself was a lot worse than I expected,” she added.
“They tried to pull out a big piece of my chest and the surgeon said, I’ll just have to do a laparotomy.
It’s really painful and scary.”
The 28-year old revealed that it took her a long time to “break through” and “get the courage to go to the doctor”.
“It took me a long, long time,” she wrote on her website.
It feels like I’ve been locked up for too long.
I’m tired of being in my own head and I don’t feel like my body is being treated properly.”
In the past, Caitlyn and her family have had to work through the stress of Caitlyn being out on the public stage.
She told PEOPLE that she was “stuck in a box” when it came to telling people about her disease.
“When you’ve got cancer and you’ve had a mastectomy and you’re just, like, like all that stuff, then it’s just like, I don, like this,” she explained.
“You’re like, why don’t you just tell people that you have cancer?”
“I was like, this is all, like a lie.
And so I started to say, like the truth.
Like, I have a disease, like cancer does.”
Caitlin’s mother also said that her child was “going through a lot”.
“She’s going through a little shit right now,” she shared.
It took a long while for me to break through. “
So, I just feel like it has taken me a lot longer than it should have.
It took a long while for me to break through.
And now I feel like we’re finally at a point where she’s ready to go.”
Caitllyn Jenner’s breast cancer diagnosis ‘saved my life’ The 26 year-old revealed that “the truth was, the truth was coming out that I had cancer”.
“When I heard the news, I knew that it was real, but I was kind of in denial,” she continued.
“This was all coming from Caitlyn.
I had no idea.
I thought, I can’t believe this is happening to me, this isn’t happening to anybody else.”
“The truth is, the lie is that I have cancer,” she concluded.
“Because of the truth that I’ve had this disease and the truth about my breast, the cancer is gone.”
Caitlilyn Jenner has revealed that a secret breast cancer has saved her life.
“As far as I know, I am not a candidate for breast cancer,” the reality star told PEOPLE in September.
“But, I do know that I am a candidate.”
Caitlynn Jenner’s story is far from the only celebrity to reveal that she’s battling a disease that affects her health.
